APT2 is an advanced persistent threat (APT) that has been active since at least 2013 and continues to be a significant cybersecurity concern for organizations worldwide. It is also referred to as "Hard Rain" or "Deep Panda." APT2 targets various industries, including government agencies, military contractors, media outlets, and financial institutions, among others. The group has been linked to Chinese intelligence services and is known for its sophisticated tactics, such as spear-phishing emails, malware distribution through compromised websites or software updates, and exploitation of vulnerabilities in operating systems and applications. APT2's primary objective appears to be theft of sensitive information, including intellectual property, trade secrets, and personal data.

Techniques, tactics and practices:

APT2 employs a variety of techniques to achieve its objectives, including spear-phishing emails that contain malicious attachments or links. The group also uses watering hole attacks, where they compromise legitimate websites and inject their own code into them to distribute malware to unsuspecting users who visit those sites.
